2022 Reading Challenge

If you know me at all it will come as no surprise to you that I love to read. If you ever want to strike up an easy conversation with me, just ask me what I’ve been reading and I will talk your ear off. Reading has been one of my favourite hobbies since I first learned how to do it as a child. I absolutely love getting completely wrapped up in a story. I fall in love with the characters, I laugh with them, I cry with them and I fight with indignant rage right along side them if that’s where our story takes us. There is something so miraculous about getting lost in a book and I hope to bestow that love to both of my children. And to be honest dear reader, I hope to instill it in you as well.

I got lost in a lot of books in 2022. Some of them worth noting, a few of them not noteworthy in the least and yet I enjoyed every single one of them. I could never pick a favourite genre because in all honestly, I could not live without access to them all. I will venture to say though that my top 3 are Fantasy, Historical Fiction and Romance. WAIT, stay with me here. I know, I know.. Romance.. ew, the dregs of the literary world ::insert eye roll here:: BUT if I may, please indulge me for a moment. I just love a happy ending. Sometimes I want to read a book and know that everything works out in the end; that people can face hardships and not only persevere through the most difficult things life can throw at you but find great happiness at the end of the journey. We live in times of such upheaval that often our day to day lives are so full of stress and anxiety. I indulge that gentle side of me knowing that at least here for this brief few hours, everything is going to work out okay. And, you know, occasionally some of them are 🌶️ 😜

I didn’t read as many “self help” books as I usually do last year, and I definitely fell off the wagon writing about what I’ve been reading. Just as in childhood, I got lost in too many incredible stories to do a proper book report. I do try to pepper in the occasional “good for you/educational” books and I suspect this year I will catch up. I am already 4 books ahead on my 2023 Reading Challenge so we’ll see what happens, and hopefully I will be better at keeping track on here. My only goal is to be sharing the insightful tidbits that guide me along the way and hopefully inspiring you to look for your own happy ending.

So tell me, what are you reading…?
